These ah-mazing golden bakes are light and fluffy with a delish garlic butter crust. It makes a great side at a party or your weekday or weekend dinner. With just a handful of ingredients, they turn out perfect every time!!!
It's hard to beat the aroma and appetizing quality of a freshly baked bread right out of the oven. These garlicky Olive Garden inspired breadsticks are a personal favorite. It's pretty much a fail-proof easy-to-make recipe. Proofing the dough in an Instant pot is a cinch. It's completely okay to proof it on the counter in a greased bowl, just it will take a little longer.
For dipping, we really love Homemade marinara or this Restaurant style olive oil dip. But this is optional as they are so good just by themselves!!!
Serve it with soup, salad, or these Veggie stuffed shells for an ultimate satisfying meal!!!
Ingredients
Breadsticks
- 2.5 cups all-purpose flour (makes 10 breadsticks)
- 1.5 tablespoon sugar
- 1.25 teaspoon salt
- 1.25 teaspoon active dry yeast
- 2 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
- ¾ cup water, plus a little more
Garlic butter topping
- 2 tablespoon unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon sea salt or salt to taste
Instructions
- In a small bowl, add water, yeast, and sugar. Stir gently and let it rest for 5-10 minutes. It should turn frothy.
- In the meantime, combine together the rest of the ingredients, flour, salt, and oil in a stand mixer fitted with a dough attachment.
- Start the stand mixer at medium speed gradually adding warm water with yeast and sugar in it.
- Continue till it forms into a smooth and elastic ball, about 5-7 minutes. Add little flour if it's too sticky.
- Grease the steel insert of Instant Pot.
- Lightly oil the dough and place it in the Inner Pot. Close the lid.
- Turn on the Yogurt Mode at Medium/Normal and set the timer for 1:00 hr.
- Once the time is up, the dough would have more than doubled in size.
- If not using Instant Pot, just let the dough rest covered in a greased bowl at a warm spot like an oven with the lights turned on for about 1.5-2 hours or till it doubles in size.
- Once ready, gently punch the dough down and divide it into 10 equal parts.
- Roll each piece into an 8-inch log. Make sure the rest of the dough is still covered while you work on one portion.
- Transfer all the logs to a parchment paper-lined baking sheet.
- Cover and let rise for another hour.
- Preheat the oven to 425°F.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
- In the meantime, combine butter, garlic powder, and salt.
- Remove breadsticks from the oven. Immediately brush with garlic butter topping. Alternatively, you can brush the warm breadsticks with butter and use garlic-salt mix as per your liking.
- Serve warm with marinara or olive oil dip!!!
Recipe Notes
- To make it vegan, use vegan butter or extra virgin olive oil to make the garlic topping. Or simply enjoy by itself.
- Brush breadsticks with garlic butter as soon as it's out of the oven.
- To freeze, either store the dough or baked breadstick in a freezer-safe bag for up to 3 months.
- If using instant yeast, you don't need to activate the yeast by adding it to warm water.
- Don't skip the second rise after the dough has been divided into logs. Make sure to cover it.
