Sooji Toast | Rava Toast | Semolina Toast

    Published: Feb 20, 2022 by Sonal ·

Sooji Toast makes a quick, easy, and healthy breakfast that's also a perfect tea-time accompaniment. It’s filling yet easy on the stomach and tastes heavenly!!

    Sooji toast

    Ingredients

    • 4 slices bread of your choice (white, whole wheat or multi-grain)
    • ⅓ cup sooji (rava or semolina)
    • ⅓ cup heavy whipping cream or malai - note: use yogurt instead for a lighter version
    • ¼ cup milk, to adjust consistency if needed
    • ¼ cup onions, finely chopped
    • ¼ cup tomatoes, finely chopped
    • 2 tablespoon green pepper/capsicum, finely chopped
    • 1 tablespoon frozen green peas, rinsed
    • 2 tablespoon frozen corn, rinsed
    • ½ teaspoon ginger, minced
    • 1 green chili, finely chopped (optional)
    • 2 tablespoon cilantro/coriander, finely chopped
    • ¼ teaspoon chili powder
    • ¼ teaspoon garam masala
    • 1-2 tablespoon ghee (or oil)
    • Salt to taste

    Instructions

    1. In a mixing bowl, combine together sooji and heavy cream to form a thick batter of spreadable consistency. Add milk if it's too thick.
    2. Add onions, tomatoes, green pepper, peas, green chilies, ginger, cilantro, salt, chili powder, and garam masala. Give it a good mix.
    3. Spread the sooji-veggie mixture evenly on one side of each bread slice.
    4. Heat a pan or tawa over medium-low heat. Brush it with ghee.
    5. Place the bread with sooji-veggie mixture side down on the tawa.
    6. Cook for 4-5 minutes or till it turns light golden brown. Press it with a spatula lightly in between to make sure the sooji is cooked all over.
    7. Flip and toast the other side until golden and crisp.
    8. Repeat the process for the rest of the bread slices.
    9. Cut sooji toast into half and serve immediately with ketchup or green chutney and chai.

    Recipe Notes

    • These toasts are quite versatile. Use salt and freshly cracked pepper instead if you don't have the above spices in your pantry. They will still be super yummy.
    • Add milk to adjust the consistency of the topping. It should be easily spreadable.
    • Use plain yogurt/curd instead of cream for a lighter version.
    • Skip green chilies if making for kids.
    • Sooji toast is best served hot.
